St. Malachy’s Virtual Sports Day 2020

31st May 2020

Unfortunately, this year, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we will be unable to hold our normal Sports Day. However, we have decided that we will hold a Virtual Sports Week on week beginning Monday 1 June. Hopefully the weather will remain good. Simply choose a time next week when it suits.
It would be great if parents could post photos and videos of your child / children competing in the events at home via the Seesaw platform. Alternatively send photos to the school mobile 07743031542. We hope everyone has lots of fun and remembers to stay safe!
Below are some traditional Sports Day events, but feel free to pick and choose as you please. You could also make your own wacky obstacle course.

Sprint Race
The Sprint Race is one of the most popular races on Sports Day. Children in Y1, Y2, Y3 & Y4 could sprint for 30 metres if possible. Children in Y5, Y6 & Y7 could sprint for 60 metres long if possible.

Long Jump
If you have some chalk or a small stone, make a line on the ground. Children can jump with their feet together. When they land draw a line at the back of their heel, then ask them to beat their jump.

Shuttle Run
The Shuttle Run is a great way to build up fitness and you only need a short distance in your garden or path. Use two jumpers (20 metres apart) and ask the children to sprint between the two jumpers. Parents count how many shuttles the child can complete in 30 seconds.

Potato & Spoon Race
They can race between two jumpers on the ground. Children in Y1, Y2, Y3 & Y4 could race up to 20 metres, Y5, Y6 & Y7 could race up to 40 metres.

Sack Race
Children could race against each other or even against their parents/guardians!
Children can also race on their own and parents/guardians could time them. Children in Y1, Y2, Y3 & Y4 could race over 20 metres, Y5, Y6 & Y7 could race over 40 metres.

Looking forward to seeing all of your photos and video clips
