IRELAND'S TOP CARICATURE ARTIST, NIALL O'LOUGHLIN GIVES A MASTER CLASS IN ST. MALACHY'S PRIMARY SCHOOL

4th Jul 2012

The children and the staff of St. Malachy's had the pleasure and privilege of working with Niall O'Loughlin regarded by many as Ireland's most popular caricaturist. Niall had agreed to work with Key Stage 2 pupils in St. Malachy's in preparation for the inaugural PTA sponsored Art Exhibition on May 31st.
Local artist and student teacher, Pauline Murphy, has been working in the school during this academic term and she sent samples of pupils' work to Niall for his perusal.  He was so taken by the standard and creativity that he readily agreed to visit the school to continue the work.  This is being regarded as a major coup for the school as Niall features extensively on Radio and TV and it is a wonderful opportunity for budding artists in St. Malachy's to work with and receive tips from a professional.
Niall spent the morning sharing his years of experience with children in primary seven and was again impressed by the high level of artistic skills on display. Both Mr Duggan and Mrs King agreed to be subjects for Niall has he created two separate caricatures. Niall also very kindly donated a print of his original caricature of the famous Dublin band ‘The Script' to the school.
The children and staff of St. Malachy's would like to thank Niall for giving his time and highly sought after work to the school. The morning proved to be a very interesting, enjoyable and extremely beneficial to the development of artistic skills.
The Art Exhibition, open to the public, featured work from local artists, including Mrs. Anne Clarke, former school secretary, as well as the work of pupils.
